Ministry Update

Preparing to publish biblical resources in Nigeria

An August 2023 update traced the Yoruba translation’s publisher review and LIT’s move toward local printing.

Faithful translation and careful review

In August 2023, LIT reported progress on its Yoruba translation of Paul Washer’s The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The team had responded to feedback from Reformation Heritage Books, with the translation and formatting still under review by the original publisher.

The project sought to make the book accessible to Yoruba readers while remaining faithful to the original work. It built on the translation agreement signed in January and the linguistic review described in the May ministry update.

Moving from shipping to local production

The newsletter announced the registration of a nonprofit Christian publishing organization in Nigeria, LIT Publication, to support the production of resources within the country.

After evaluating printers and reconsidering a proposal to print in the Niger Republic, the team chose a Nigerian printing approach. The update reported a reduction in the estimated printing and distribution cost from $5 to $1 per copy for this project. These were estimates shared in August 2023, not current prices or a promise attached to gifts today.

The next stage

At the time of this issue, publisher approval and printing were still ahead. The August 26 update subsequently reported approval to print in Nigeria.
