Making sound literature accessible
LIT’s May 2023 newsletter looked back on a translation project begun after planning in late 2022. On January 30, 2023, LIT signed an agreement with Reformation Heritage Books to translate Paul Washer’s The Gospel of Jesus Christ into Yoruba.
The translation team completed its work in April. A Yoruba linguist then led review and moderation, with attention to readability for native speakers and faithfulness to the original text. Publisher review and approval were still to follow.
The newsletter’s proposed 10,000-copy printing was a future goal, not a completed distribution. The approach and cost estimates subsequently changed, as described in the August publishing update.
Crucial Questions for local churches
Supporters also enabled LIT to order 550 copies from R. C. Sproul’s Crucial Questions series during a Ligonier sale. The books were intended for Reformed churches in Nigeria to share with their congregations.
An earlier May 12 appeal had reported more than 500 copies ordered. The later 550 figure updates that order; the two numbers should not be added together. Ordering the books did not itself establish that they had been shipped or distributed.
Partnership behind the work
The update thanked supporters for making both translation and resource acquisition possible. It offered a picture of the preparation that takes place before a book reaches a reader.
