The December 2022 update recorded resource deliveries, a new country director, pastoral support, and the beginnings of indigenous-language publishing plans.

Resources and relationships

LIT’s December 2022 update looked back on its November mission visit and the development of a ministry begun in 2021. It reported 2,551 theological books and materials delivered to Nigeria during 2022, with thanks to Crossway and Midway Presbyterian Church.

A further 5,696 books were reported as awaiting shipment. The newsletter described Ligonier’s contribution of Study Bibles and theological books, alongside support from Ligonier and Midway toward shipping costs. Books awaiting shipment were not yet reported as delivered or distributed.

Coordination within Nigeria

Joel Uzamere formally joined LIT in December as Country Director of Operations in Nigeria, based in Lagos. He had already helped with storage, logistics, and getting resources to recipients, alongside his responsibilities at Sovereign Grace Bible Church and Grace & Truth Theological Seminary.

Supporting men in local ministry

The update identified three missionary pastors connected with LIT’s support: Osagie Azeta; Rukewe Idenedo, beginning ministry at Christ Bible Church in Lagos; and Otu Oluwagbemiga, beginning ministry at Calvary Reformed Baptist Church in Abeokuta.

It also introduced three pastoral interns at Trinity Baptist Church in Abuja: Eleazar Chibuenyim Maduka, Fred Ojonugwa Joseph, and Oluwadamilare Sobanjo. LIT described its intention to help support men preparing for and serving in ministry; the proposed expansion to five pastors and five interns was a goal for 2023, not an accomplished total.

Preparing for translation and local printing

The newsletter outlined plans to translate biblical resources into Nigerian languages, beginning with Yoruba and Paul Washer’s The Gospel of Jesus Christ. It also described exploration of a Publish4All printing system. These were proposals under development, not a report that equipment had been purchased.

The later May 2023 update records progress on the translation, and the August update explains the move toward printing in Nigeria.
