An unexpected request for a Study Bible

Reflecting on a 2023 mission visit, Olumide described a woman’s desire for help understanding Scripture in an Abia State community.

A conversation beyond the conference

In his January 2024 letter, Olumide Olumide recalled a visit to a community in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State, during the previous year’s mission trip. He and LIT’s country director, Joel Uzamere, had shared biblical resources with staff at the hotel where they were staying before a seminary conference.

A reader seeking understanding

An older woman later approached them after seeing someone read one of the Study Bibles. She explained that the notes helped explain the verses, and asked whether she too could receive a copy.

The team provided a Bible from the resources taken to the seminary. Olumide reflected that her request illustrated the need both for accessible biblical resources and for faithful teachers who could help readers understand Scripture.

Books and pastoral preparation

The letter connected that brief encounter with LIT’s wider commitment to equip pastors, rather than treating a book as a substitute for the ministry of a local church.

This is a recollection published in January 2024 of a visit in 2023, not a report of a new 2024 trip. The woman was not identified by name.
