Training within a congregation
LIT’s July 2023 ministry update focused on pastoral internships. Working with local churches, the initiative sought to support faithful young men as they prepared for gospel ministry and possible church-planting service.
At the time, LIT supported three interns serving at Trinity Baptist Church in Abuja. Additional applicants were being evaluated; the newsletter did not report that those applicants had already joined the program.
Support that makes room for learning
The newsletter described monthly stipends provided through the local church to help with an intern’s financial responsibilities during training. Its emphasis extended beyond money: LIT, the host congregation, and supporting individuals or churches were to share in encouraging each intern’s preparation.
The model included contact with the intern and regular reports on his progress and service. These relationships were intended to connect practical care with the church’s responsibility to equip men for ministry.
A pathway toward faithful service
The aim was the planting and strengthening of gospel-centered churches in Nigeria. Internship support was presented as one part of that longer preparation, rather than a guarantee of appointment or a report that every intern had become a church planter.
